Hi, I’m Dr. Jack.

Biology has always been one of my great passions.

Teaching is another.

I loved Biology so much that I decided to do a PhD in it. I spent that time trying to figure out why damaged DNA in the brain could cause alterations to the way action potentials and synaptic signalling events happened. Then, I moved on to working as a researcher at the Karolinska Institute, one of the top medical schools and best hospitals in Europe, trying to understand a bit more about how Alzheimer’s Disease works. Throughout this, I’ve been tutoring students from IB Biology all the way up to helping them through their own PhD.

The main problem with the IB system is that the content is so vast, and with the introduction of the new syllabus making the topic even more complicated, teachers relying on the knowledge they got from their degrees 15+ years ago can often lack the understanding to explain the content effectively. The biggest benefit of working with me is that my years in research, several of which are in fields directly related to the IB biology syllabus, have given me a level of understanding that allows me to effectively communicate the intricacies of biology to students. My track record speaks for itself; students that work with me consistently can expect significant improvements. With my tutelage and their hard work, some have risen from 3 to 7 within a year. If you’re interested, please do get in touch.

My Approach

The most frequent complaint I hear about the education system is that a student has been left behind. Biology is so wonderfully interconnected that understanding, say, DNA replication, can inform us about the nuances of ecology. But, it takes one lapse of understanding to be left behind by a busy teacher and, suddenly, the word acetylcholinesterase pops up and it can feel like you’re having a bad dream.

How can you engage with something, and enjoy the process of learning, if step 3 of a 30 step process wasn’t taught to you well enough?

My approach is, and has always been, to foster a deeper understanding of the material than conventional teaching in a packed classroom can provide. Under my tutelage, you will understand biology from it’s foundations to it’s highest Echelon.

Biology is like music…

…or at least that’s why I’d say if I wanted to justify using this cool picture of me. Let’s ask someone else.

What my past students say

Testimonial 1:

“Jack has helped me so much in IB Biology SL, through his intriguing and fun way of teaching. I had absolutely no knowledge in Biology when starting in year 12, which is why I initially had a 3 as my overall performance. After beginning my lessons with Jack, I went from being predicted a 5 to achieving a 7 in my final IB exams. Thus, now I can conclude that Jack has truly saved my grade. I believe my progress in Biology speaks for Jack‘s extraordinary way of teaching, and can only recommend him highly for students that have similar problems like I did.”
- Clemens, Stoneyhurst Academy

He is fantastic at explaining complex information in depth and went the extra mile to ensure I was up to date with current and changing research,. His expertise and communication skills are invaluable, and he was also flexible with his working hours to ensure I was fully prepared for my exams. He is professional yet possesses a kind and positive energy. I am grateful for his support and leadership".”
- Josie, York University, Biology BSc

Testimonial 3:

“I had a great experience with Jack as a tutor in the IB Biology course at a higher lever.. He was not only knowledgeable but also patient, making sure I understood everything we covered. Jack's friendly nature made our sessions comfortable and productive. I appreciated his ability to explain complex concepts in a way that was easy to grasp. Highly recommend Jack for anyone looking for a supportive and effective tutor.”

Testimonial 4:

“Jack has been an amazing IB biology tutor, and his teaching style has made a huge difference in my understanding of the subject. There were parts of the course I really struggled with before, but Jack explained everything in a way that finally made sense to me. He’s also been really good at helping me remember key content and feel more confident overall. Not only has he helped me understand the content better, he’s also given me the tools to remember key material and approach the course with much more confidence. On top of that, he’s been super supportive by using different techniques that work with my ADHD, which has really improved how I study and learn. I couldn’t have come this far without his help.”
